Sintesis dan Karakterisasi Silika Hidrofobik Termodifikasi Setiltrimetilamoniumbromida (CTAB) dengan Variasi Komposisi Prekursor Metiltrimetoksilan-Tetraetilortosilikat (MTMS-TEOS)
ABSTRAK
Silika hidrofobik dapat dihasilkan dari reaksi prekursor silika;
Sedangkan, lapisan tipis silika dianalisis sifat
hidrofobiknya melalui pengukuran sudut kontak air dan pengukuran morfologi
permukaan menggunakan SEM. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dengan
bertambahnya kandungan MTMS dalam komposisi perkursor, meningkatkan sifat
hidrofobik dari lapis tipis yang dihasilkan. Sudut kontak tertinggi diperoleh adalah
hidrofobisitas lapis tipis MTMS-TEOS bertahan hingga suhu 460°C. Sementara
Citra SEM menunjukkan
bahwa permukaan lapis tipis adalah kasar.

ABSTRACT
Hydrophobic silica can be produced from the reaction of silica precursors;
methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) and tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS). However, the
hydrophobicity character is not optimal, so it is necessary to variations in the
composition of the precursors (MTMS-TEOS) and add other compounds to increase
its hydrophobicity, one of which is the addition of surfactants; cetyl
trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). This study aims first to obtain a CTABmodified hydrophobic silica with variations in the composition of MTMS-TEOS.
Second, study the effect of MTMS-TEOS precursor composition with the addition of
fixed CTAB, to the character of thin layers and the resulting silica xerogel. Uncalcined
silica xerogels were analyzed using TGA-DSC to reveal their thermal properties, while
calcined xerogels were analyzed using FTIR to determine the character of functional
groups, and GSA to determine pore and surface morphology. Meanwhile, silica thin
films were analyzed for their hydrophobic properties by measuring water contact
angles and surface morphology identifications using SEM. The results showed that
increasing MTMS content in the composition of the precursors increased the
hydrophobic nature of the resulting thin layer. The highest contact angle obtained was
111°. FTIR results revealed that increasing MTMS decreased silanol groups and
increased siloxane groups. The thermal analysis found that the hydrophobicity of the
MTMS-TEOS thin layer survives at a temperature of 460°C. While the GSA analysis
showed that all silicas produced were micropore in size, as the MTMS composition
increased, the pore size tended to remain constant. However, surface area and pore
volume tended to decrease. SEM images show that the surface of the thin layer is rough.
