Sintesis magnetit Silika Sulfonat Dari Pasir Besi Pantai Marina Untuk Adsropsi Ion Pb(II) da Ca(II) 546
RINGKASAN
menghasilkan magnetit silika sulfonat.
Kemampuan adsorpsi magnetit silika sulfonat diketahui melalui proses adsorpsi ion logam
natrium silika 20%.

SUMMARY
Iron sand is a natural resource that is abundant in Indonesia but has not been used well
yet. The main content of iron sand is iron oxides, which one of them is a magnetite (Fe3O4).
Magnetite is an iron oxide that has strong magnetic properties, hence its particles could be
separated by a magnetic bar easily. However, magnetite is easy to react with acid solutions,
hence its surface is not stable. On the other hand, silica sulfonate has been widely used as an
adsorbent. Thus, in this study, the coating of magnetite, which was extracted from Marina
Beach sands by sulfonate silica via sol-gel method to produce sulfonate silica magnetite were
conducted. Then, the resulting products were used for the adsorption of Pb (II) and Ca (II).
The method used in the synthesis of sulfonate silica magnetite was the sol-gel method
in which a solution of silica was added by magnetite particles and continued by dropwising a
mixture of HCl and monosodium 4-amino-5-hydroxy-2-7-naphthalenedisulfonate salt
(AHNSNa). The magnetite was obtained from Marina Beach sand Semarang through a sifting
and extraction process. The silica precursors were sodium silicate which their concentrations
varied. The magnetite mass and the concentration of HCl mixture and AHNSNa solution was
constant. Further, the sulfonate silica magnetites obtained were characterized using FTIR
spectrophotometry to determine the functional groups, and SEM-EDX to determine the
morphology and composition of the constituent elements. The sulfonate silica magnetite
adsorption capacities were determined through the adsorption of of Pb(II) and Ca(II) metal ions
with various concentrations and time.
In this Study, it was obtained that the sulfonate silica magnetite colours were gray to
reddish brown. The greater the concentration of sodium silicate, the greater the sulfonate silica
magnetite obtained. Based on the results of FTIR, the OH adsorption bands showed the widest
band was on the sample with the sodium silicate concentration of 20%.
