Modifikasi Zeolit Dengan Ditizon Untuk Adsorpsi Anion Cr2O72-
RINGKASAN
zeolit-ditizon mengalami penurunan menjadi 0,925 m²/g.
adsorpsi sebesar 161,32 mg/g.
SUMMARY
Chromium (VI) is a heavy metal ion that is easily absorbed by the body,
toxic, resulting in many industrial and laboratory wastes, hence it needs a special
handling to mitigate them. One way to mitigate the chromium (VI) is by
adsorbing it. Zeolite is a three-dimensional framework composed of tetrahedral
alumina silicate and a porous. The surface of zeolite is very broad, so it is good
when used as adsorbent, however the crystallinity of zeolite is insignificant,
dissimilar pore size and contains numerous impurities. Therefore, zeolite needs to
be modified to increase its adsorption capacity. One way to modify zeolite is by
mixing zeolite with organic ligands which can form complexes with chromium
(VI) ion. In this study, the zeolite was added by Dithizone
(Diphenylthiocarbazone) ligan to improve the effectiveness of natural zeolite in
adsorbing Cr2O72- ion.
The natural zeolites (ZSA) were soaked with 3M HCl for 24 hours.
Subsequently, the residue of the submersion (ZA) were refluxing in dithizone
solution (0.02 M) with ethanol as solvent at 50°C for 6 hours and then filtered to
produce zeolite-dithizone (ZA-dithizone). The natural zeolite (ZSA), activated
zeolite (ZA), and dithizone zeolite (ZA-dithizone) were then characterized by
FTIR and GSA. The activated zeolite (ZA) and dithizone zeolite (ZA-dithizone)
were tested their adsorption performance on Cr2O72- anion with (i) the Cr2O72-
solution pH variation of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10, (ii) the contact time variation of 5 , 10,
15, 30 and 60 minutes, and (iii) variations in Cr2O72- solution concentration of
250, 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 ppm. The concentration of adsorption results was
analyzed by AAS.
FTIR spectra of dithizone zeolite indicate the presence of –C-N- bond at
wave number of 1219.01 cm-1, and the bond-C=S at 1141.86 cm-1 which
indicating the existence of dithizone on dithizone-zeolites, nevertheless there is no
clear peak showing the presence of chemical bonds between zeolite structures
with dithizone. GSA results show the increase of surface area from 4.205 m²/g on
the natural zeolite (ZSA) to 5.459 m²/g on activated zeolites (ZA), whereas for the
dithizone zeolite it decreases to 0.925 m²/g. The pore diameter on natural zeolite
(ZSA), activated zeolite (ZSA), and dithizone zeolite are about the size of the
mesoporous (2-50 nm). From the analysis of AAS, for zeolite adsorbent-activation
(ZA), it was obtained that the adsorption capacity at pH 10, the contact time of 15
minutes and the initial concentration of 2000 ppm is 177.18 mg/g, while for
dithizone zeolite at pH 4 with the same contact time and concentration, the
adsorption capacity is 161.32 mg/g.
